Main Functions
Forms a Water Seal to Prevent Odor Backflow:The water stored inside the P-trap creates a water seal (typically 50-70mm high or more). This seal blocks sewer gases (odors, methane, hydrogen sulfide, etc.) from flowing back into the room, meeting hygiene and anti-odor requirements. The water seal remains intact even under negative pressure from siphonage (more stable with a vent cap or multi-channel design).
Provides a Cleaning/Inspection Access (Clean Out Function):The design with a clean-out port allows direct access by opening the lid. This enables the insertion of drain cleaning tools (such as wires, pipe robots, high-pressure water jets) to clear blockages like hair, grease, soap scum, and debris from inside the trap. This greatly simplifies maintenance without needing to disassemble the entire floor drain or pipe.
Connects to a Siphonage System for Negative Pressure Drainage:When a P-trap with a clean-out is connected to a siphonage branch pipe, it utilizes negative pressure (-0.05 to -0.08 MPa) to achieve high-velocity, full-pipe drainage (3-6 m/s). This drainage efficiency is far superior to traditional gravity drainage and is suitable for high-flow sanitary fixtures (such as showers and washing machines).
Cushions Water Hammer and Reduces Noise:The curved structure of the P-trap cushions water hammer impacts during drainage, reducing pipe vibration and noise. The clean-out port can also serve as a pressure relief point, assisting in pressure release under extreme conditions.
